Kurt Mellor

October 29, 1961 — February 17, 2022

Fayette, Utah – Our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Kurt Ivan Mellor, age 60, passed away February 17, 2022 at his home in Kearns. He was born October 29, 1961 in Gunnison, a son of Ivan Doyle and Bessie LaRue Thompson Mellor. Kurt grew up in Fayette. He was a very active boy. One afternoon when Kurt was six years old, he went to the store, walking home, this black dog started following him. When he got home his Mom asked what is that dog doing here? Kurt said it just followed me home. Bessie said you need to find the owner and return the dog. Kurt said why? Bessie said because it isn’t your dog. A few days passed by and finally Kurt found the owner of the dog. He said that he could keep the dog, Blacky. Kurt was so happy, but his mother wasn’t. Blacky and Kurt were best friends and did everything together. During the summer, Kurt and Karen, his sister, would help out on the farm. They got to watch the cows getting milked, but didn’t like the warm milk. They drove the tractor while the hay was being picked up. They loved life on the farm. They loved to go camping in the nearby mountains. There was a family in Fayette that raised sheep. One summer they brought a sheep to Kurt and let him take care of it. Kurt had to feed, water and take care of the sheep and at the end of the summer, he got to sell it and keep the money. He was excited to be able to buy a few things. Each summer after that, Kurt would have a sheep to take care of. It helped him learn how to save money and be responsible. You could look out the kitchen window each summer day and see Kurt, Blacky and the sheep under the big shade tree. Kurt graduated from Gunnison Valley High School, Class of 1980 and then went to Snow College in Ephraim where he graduated with a degree in Carpentry. He moved to Kearns, bought a home that he loved fixing up and worked for RC Willey for 30 years. Kurt was a great neighbor and enjoyed helping take care of his neighbor’s lawn and shoveling snow in the winter. He loved working at RC Willey. Kurt learned to ice skate growing up. After he moved to Kearns, he met some friends at the skating rink and became close friends. They gave him the opportunity of ice skating in the 2002 Winter Olympics and he loved it. Kurt still went to the ice rink when he could. Kurt enjoyed coming back to Fayette to help his Mother. They would go camping in the summertime and reminisce of old times. Kurt enjoyed helping his neighbors and his co-workers at RC Willey. He was always happy and loved being with his family. He will be missed. Kurt is survived by his sister, Karen and John Moore of Springville; their children: Adam Jay Moore of Provo; Brandon Brett Moore of Payson; Mike, John and Jessica Moore of Herriman; Jeremy Scott Moore of Moroni, Brayden Harley Moore of Herriman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Doyle and Bessie LaRue Thompson Mellor; his grandparents, Joseph Christian and Caroline Rebecca Jensen Thompson, William James and Ozemba Minerva Pierce Mellor; a nephew, Milo Ivan Moore; and a niece, Brooklynn Kelsi Moore. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 11 AM in the Fayette Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
