LaDonna G. Gammill

January 15, 1935 — September 11, 2024

LaDonna Ruth Gibbons Gammill, age 89, passed away in the early morning hours of September 11, 2024, in South Jordan, Utah. She was born January 15, 1935, in Torrey Utah to Cecil Mayhew and Ruby Ruth Hunt Gibbons. She was the second child of four children: an older brother Carlyle, younger brother Evan Gibbons, and younger sister Rhonda. She had a happy childhood surrounded by both sets of grandparents, many aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.

Her school years were spent in Green River, Utah where she graduated from high school. She worked at the Oasis Cafe where she met the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Allen Gammill. She always said it was a miracle that they met. They were married in Green River, Utah, on June 26, 1954, and were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on November 26, 1958.

They began their married life at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where Larry was stationed while serving in the U.S. Army. After Larry’s honorable discharge, they moved to Colorado. They first lived in Fruita, then Denver, and then Englewood. During this time, they welcomed three children into their family: Trudy Lynn, Cynthia Ann, and Kurt Lawrence. It would be two more moves (to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Colorado Springs, Colorado) before Melinda Ruth joined the family.

Colorado Springs was home for thirty-four years. Here they made many wonderful memories as a family. It was also here that LaDonna developed her love of the mountains.

She was an exceptional mother, and when asked about motherhood, she always said, “I loved being a mother”.

Larry and LaDonna enjoyed many outdoor adventures together. They especially loved their cabin in Bonanza, Colorado, and their trips to Alaska. They worked hard to provide a college education for all four of their children. They also served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After all the children were married, LaDonna went to work for the El Paso County (Colorado) Appraiser’s Office where she worked for ten years. She was always proud of her work for the county and the pension it provided for her in retirement.

In 2002 Larry and LaDonna moved to Annabella, Utah, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Many dear friends and cherished memories were made in this beautiful place. Lawrence died July 19, 2016.

LaDonna is survived by her children: Trudy (Brian) Witt, Cindy (Phil) Hulet, Kurt (Cathy) Gammill, and Melinda (Doug) Hunt; 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Rhonda (Brian, deceased) Metcalf.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers, Carlyle (Ilene) Gibbons and Evan Gibbons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 A.M., Mountain Daylight Time, in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. prior to the services.
