Larry W. Rees

July 8, 1941 — January 22, 2015

Sandy, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Lawrence Waldemar Rees, age 73, passed away January 22, 2015 at his home in Sandy. He was born July 8, 1941, in Murray Utah, a son of Waldemar and Olive Lena Johnson Rees and the oldest of five children. He graduated from Cypress High School and Brigham Young University. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served an LDS Mission in the Northwestern States Mission. He served in the National Guard at Fort Ord, CA. After serving in the National Guard, Larry married Bonnie Rae VanAusdal, they later divorced. He then married the love of his life and his eternal companion, Lora Chidester on March 11, 1989, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He loved the gospel and served in many callings. He worked in the Boy Scouts of America program for over 35 years. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and caving. One of his passions was remodeling his homes for his family to enjoy. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Lora, of Sandy; his children Monica Wayman of Payson; Loreen and David Olney of Riverton; Tony and Chris Rees of Provo; Stephanie Carter of Olalla, WA; Brian Liner of Sandy; Darryl and Charity Liner of El Paso TX; Mike Rees of Santaquin; Chris and Jenny Rees of Springville; Sandy and Gene Evans of Avon IN; Quinn and Katy Rees of Lubbock, TX; Michael and Nancy Robins of Huntington Beach CA; Nicole Rees of Santaquin; Angie Rees of Payson; Jason Rees of Santaquin; Troy Michael Rees of Magna; Alex Rees of Sandy; 36 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother: Daryl and Wendy Rees of Soldotna AK; sister: Taunya and Norman Hoeppner of Kearns; brother-in-law: Ray Memmott of Magna; sister-in-law Dorotha and Darryl Taylor of Roosevelt. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Kathleen Lena Memmott and Sharon Ann Wolfe; brothers-in-law: Richard White Chidester and Phillip Clyde Chidester; grandson: Jeremy Craig Wayman and great-grandson: Shea Bryan Whipple. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be sent to Intermountain Homecare and Hospice, 11520 South Redwood Rd, South Jordan, Utah 84095-7805, in memory of Lawrence W. Rees. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mesa Park LDS Ward Chapel, 8945 South 1700 East in Sandy, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard will be Saturday afternoon at 3:30 P.M. in the Bicknell Cemetery, Bicknell, Utah, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
