St. George/Salina, Utah - Our loving, giving Aunt Mickee died December 13, 2011 in St. George, Utah. She was born September 21, 1925 in Salina, Utah, a daughter of James Claude and Jesse Murphy Mickelsen. Mickee graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1943. She received a BS Degree from BYU and a MS Degree from the U of U. She was a Professor at the University of New Mexico and there she started the “Navajo Youth Recreation Program.” After her retirement in 1990 she moved to St. George where she has since resided. Mickee served as the National Chairman of the Womens Basketball AAU; as the Women’s Olympic Basketball Chairman and as President of the Women’s Olympic Board. She was a member of the LDS Church and she enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. Mickee is survived by her nieces and nephews: Bette and Dee Wayne, Renee and Jerry, Valerie, Phyllis and LeRoy, Marilyn and DeLoy, Bartley and Alexa, Denny and Claudia. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and two sisters: Levear Mickelsen, Leland Mickelsen, Mae Christensen and Chloe Kotter. Grave side services will be held Monday, December 19, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. in the Salina Eastside Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street in Salina, Monday morning from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
