Bicknell/St. George, Utah - Our kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, LaWana Jane Turner Morrell, age 84, died August 11, 2013 in St. George, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 26, 1929 in Salina, Utah, a daughter of James Collier and Hazel May Oldroyd Turner. She graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1947. She married Chapman Meeks Morrell, June 3, 1948 in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their home in Bicknell, where they raised their five children. Meeks was a rancher and farmer, and LaWana was right at his side, helping in whatever manner she could. LaWana was a very active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Primary Presidency; in two different Ward Relief Society Presidencies and a Stake Relief Society Presidency; Primary and Relief Society Teacher; Visiting Teacher and Home Teacher with Meeks; and served as the Thurber Ward Bishop's Wife for seven years; Organist and Pianist for all organizations; serving in the church for over 75 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Bicknell Literary Club. She enjoyed being a Wayne County Commissioner's Wife for 16 years. LaWana enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and bottling fruits and vegetables; being a homemaker and a Mom; music, reading, crocheting, cooking, serving others, dancing with Meeks, and playing the piano and the organ. She is survived by her husband of St. George and Bicknell; her children: Rebecca and Richard Pace of Teasdale; Janie and Val Robinson of Washington City; Ramona and James McKim; James and Carrie Morrell, all of St. George; Marilyn Morrell of Santa Clara; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; sisters: Dawn Mangum of Bountiful and Claudia King of Provo; a sister-in-law: Bette Lou Turner of Cedar City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Collier and Hazel Turner; sisters and brothers: Veneta Turner; Willis and Luana Turner; Mark and Rula Turner; Scott Turner; Mable and Klar Jorgensen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Claud Mangum; Don Emery King; Dora Dean and Rex Mathis; Elwood and Ora Morrell; Ruben and Phyllis Morrell; Rebecca Lyle Morrell. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bernie Laub for her kind and tender care of our dear Mom these last few months, and thanks to Zions Way Hospice for their help and care. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 16, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday morning from 10:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
