Leila Christensen

December 29, 1931 — February 26, 2024

Richfield, Utah - Leila Sorensen Christensen died Feb. 26, 2024, in Provo, Utah after a tragic fall the day before.


She was born December 29, 1931, in Mayfield, Utah to Alton and Janet Martin Sorensen. Her father was a real cowboy and worked on numerous ranches. Leila’s early life was spent in Gunnison and on ranches in Nevada.


She married Ted Vernal Christensen April 14, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. They were married for 74 years until Ted’s death on July 6, 2023.


Early in her marriage she and Ted lived in numerous locations, including Salina, Spanish Fork, and Mt. Pleasant. They moved to Richfield in 1969. After living in Richfield for 54 years, they moved to the Legacy House Assisted Living Center in Spanish Fork in 2023.


Leila was a devoted member of the LDS faith, serving in several positions, including Primary teacher, Relief Society President and Counselor and many years alongside her husband at the Manti Temple.


She was a talented seamstress and quilter. Her children are still using quilts she made. She was also an amateur artist, creating numerous paintings that adorn her children’s homes. She was always working on a crossword puzzle and was the best Nertz player ever. She was a devoted mother, grandma, and great grandma. She always made sure her children got to their activities.


Leila is survived by her five children: Michael (Kathy) Christensen, Steven Christensen, Kim (Sonja) Christensen, Sherry (Mark) Trotter), and Sandee Loader; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and a brother, Clifton Sorensen.


She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother Orval Sorensen.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2 at 12:00 Noon in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Richfield where friends and family will be received one hour prior to the funeral.

Interment will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery alongside her husband under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
