Leland L. Sorenson

March 3, 1926 — January 26, 2020

Axtell, Utah – Our beloved Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend, Leland LaMar Sorenson, age 93, passed away at his home in Axtell on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Leland was born March 3, 1926 in Axtell, Utah to Truman LeNoir and Rolinda Jensen Sorenson. He was the youngest of seven children. He had three brothers and three sisters. Leland grew up in Axtell and attended school in Axtell, Centerfield, and Gunnison. His big interests were in farming, driving and breaking teams of horses, and spending time with his brother LeNoir on the mountains in the summertime. Leland had a very happy childhood. Leland lived all his life in Axtell except for about two years during World War II spent in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in China. After returning home from the war he met Donna Vee Jensen of Redmond, and after dating a little more than a year they were married on July 20, 1948 in Redmond, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple, December 9, 1982. They made their home in Axtell where they lived their entire married lives. His occupation was farming and ranching, which he loved. After he retired he loved to go for firewood and did this until he was 89 years old. Leland and Donna Vee had three children, Steven LaMar Sorenson who was their pride and joy, and two still born babies, a daughter Debra Ann, and a son Wade. Leland was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter of Latter Day Saints. He served in the High Priest Presidency and was a Home Teacher for many years. He was a member of the Willow Creek Grazers Board, served on the Highland Irrigation Board, and the Willow Creek Irrigation Board. Leland is survived by his wife of 71 ½ years Donna Vee Sorenson of Axtell; his son Steven LaMar (Patricia) Sorenson of Kanosh; grandchildren: Chad; Kel; Cole; Cami; great-grandchildren: Tyra; Macie; Treygan; Grace; Justine; Kellie; Nathan; Chase; Makai; Teija; Anabelle. Preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Debra Ann Sorenson; a son Wade Sorenson; a grandson Trevor Wade Sorenson; 3 brothers: LeNoir Sorenson; Carlyle Sorenson; Elwood Sorenson; 3 sisters: Elaine Christenson; Marjorie Jensen; Mathel Mickelsen. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 8, 2020, in the Axtell LDS Ward Chapel, 75 West Center, Axtell, Utah, where friends may call for viewing from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. prior to services. Interment with military honors provided by the Centerfield American Legion Post #105 and the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard will be in the Redmond Cemetery, Redmond, Utah, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
