Leland Oyler

April 14, 1925 — February 8, 2007

Loa, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and best friend, Leland Oyler, age 81, died February 8, 2007 at his home in Loa. He was born April 14, 1925 in Loa, Utah, a son of Ammon Oyler Jr. and Annie Elizabeth Ernsten Oyler Manwill. He attended school at Wayne High School in Bicknell. Leland was inducted in to the United States Army November 16, 1943. He was a Rifleman in the Infantry in Naples, Italy. He participated in Rome Arno North Appenines, Po Valley Battle and Campaigns. He married Carolyn Bell March 9, 1944 in Salt Lake City and they were later divorced. He married Bonni Louise Nolan September 28, 1978 in Citrus Heights, California. Their marriage was solemnized in the Oakland LDS Temple February 14, 2001. Leland was a member of the LDS Church, Fremont Utah Ward. He had served as a Bishop, on the High Council, Scout Master, Physical Facilities Coordinator, and he served a service mission at Deseret Industries. Leland worked at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California for 33 years. He volunteered twice a week for Senior Gleaners throughout Northern California and Nevada. Leland and Bonni moved home to Loa in 2001. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, building and repairing things, home and yard work, but he especially enjoyed serving others. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonni, of Loa; 4 children: Rulon and Colleen Oyler of Altures, California; Ammon Oyler of Sacramento, California; Vicky and Arthur Kelso of New Castle, California; Dawn and Craig Miller of Citrus Heights, California; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and many “adopted” grandchildren; sisters and brother: Zina New, LaRue Peterson, Ernest Oyler, all of Loa; Blanche Pendleton of Panguitch; and Joy Talbot of West Valley City. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters: Hans Ammon Oyler, Melvin Thomas Oyler, Victor James Oyler, Delilah (Lila) Taylor, Layton Oyler, Adelia (Delia) Peterson and Lester J. Oyler. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
