Lila N. Phillips

September 4, 1927 — June 27, 2012

Centerfield, Utah - Our kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lila Payne Sorensen Nielsen Phillips, age 85, of Centerfield, Died June 27, 2012 at her home in Centerfield. She was born September 4, 1927 in Topache, Utah, a daughter of Elton Archie and Edna Marjorie Andersen Sorensen. She married Hugh Nielsen in May of 1947 in Mayfield, Utah. They were later divorced. He died December 19, 1986. She married Glen Phillips, May 28, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later divorced. Mom has enjoyed music her whole life and came from a musically talented family. She played the piano, accordion and was a lovely singer. She always enjoyed dancing and parties. She was an avid game player throughout her life, from softball, horse shoes, badminton, croquet, bowling to cards and board games. Later in life, she really enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mom loved to be around people and always welcomed visitors into her home. She had opportunities to travel, but her favorite place to be was always “AT HOME.” She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to their visits, pictures, hearing stories and taking pride in their accomplishments. Mom enjoyed nature and caring for her plants and flowers. She always had a talent of “making do” with what she had and “doing without, if others were in need.” She always enjoyed the little things: a visit instead of a gift, a “pretty wash hanging on the line”, a row of freshly bottled peaches, “all facing the same direction”. We will miss you Mom and Grandma, and we thank Tammy so, so much for being there and taking such sweet care of you always. Now you can stretch out your beautiful hands and play the piano again and dance to your hearts’ content!!! We love you, You loving family. Lila is survived by her children: Duane and Alice Nielsen of Mission Viejo, California; Darla and Russell Kimball of Escondido, California; Teryle and Jean Nielsen of Mayfield; Tammy Nielsen of and Wendy Phillips, both of Centerfield; Cory and Lilian Nielsen of Kaysville; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Alva Sorensen, Kyle Sorensen, Donna Peterson and Una Campbell.
