Lois Durfey Baker

February 29, 1944 — October 1, 2016

Murray, Utah - Lois Durfey Baker, age 72, of Murray, passed away October 1, 2016, while watching the LDS General Conference with her husband and in-laws in Logan, Utah. Lois was born (with her brother, Larry) February 29, 1944, to George Lawrence and Clea King Durfey, Jr in Salina, Utah. Being a leap-year baby, she finally celebrated her eighteenth birthday earlier this year. She was raised in Teasdale, Utah, and graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1962. She married Douglas Jesse Baker in the St. George LDS Temple September 10, 1965. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions throughout her life. She is the mother of six sons. Lois will be remembered for many things, especially for her talent to cheer the sad, sorrowful, and underprivileged. She spread the gospel of good cheer and optimism everywhere she went. She was an angel of mercy and comfort to those that had cause to mourn. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. Her support for her husband and sons knew no bounds. The hard-work ethic of her pioneer ancestors was exemplified throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Doug of Murray; her sons, Brent (Dana) Baker of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Bernell (Irene) Baker of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Jesse (Shannah) Baker of Hurricane, Utah, Kent (Angeles) Baker of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Dean (Stephanie) Baker of Jamestown, Ohio, Dale (Deanna) Baker of Lexington, Kentucky; eighteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers: Russell (Beth) Durfey of Midvale, Utah, Larry (Linda) Durfey of West Jordan, Utah, and a sister, LaWana (Allen) Jones of Teasdale, Utah She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clem Durfey, Karnell Durfey, and Scott Durfey; and two sisters, Renon Durfey and Edra Gutke. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Murray 8th LDS Ward Chapel, 160 East 4600 South, in Murray, Utah where friends may call for viewing Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Graveside services and burial will be Friday afternoon at 4:00 P.M. in the Bicknell cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
