Lowell Hermansen

August 4, 1931 — May 22, 2024

Lowell Q Hermansen was born to Herman Christian and Ireta Nielson Hermansen on August 4, 1931 in Elsinore, Utah. He passed away peacefully May 22, 2024, with his loving sweetheart by his side in Payson, Utah. He was 92.

Lowell had very humble beginnings. He lived in Elsinore during his younger years. He graduated from South Sevier High School, then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served during the Korean Conflict and received a Purple Heart. He was assigned as the radioman for his platoon. One memory Lowell would share about his military service was: One day a man climbed to the top of the hill where his unit was stationed and said, “I’m here to replace the radioman”, which was Lowell. Lowell gave him the radio and raced down the hill. While on leave, he received word that his entire unit had been killed. He felt the Lord was watching over him during his military service.

Lowell married Juanita Mae Christensen on July 9, 1954. Juanita was taking tickets at the Huish Theatre in Richfield. She caught Lowell’s heart and they were married 6 weeks after they met. They were married in the Youth Center in Richfield. Their favorite movie is, “The Creature from the Black Lagoon”, which was playing the night they met. Lowell died just seven weeks shy of their 70th wedding anniversary. They were true soulmates and have been a great example to our family showing what true love and marriage is. Lowell often loved to share his wisdom about love and finding the right partner with his grandchildren. Many of them followed his wise advice.

Lowell’s life career was working for the Los Angeles Police Department. He retired after 20 years on the force after making many lifelong friends. After retiring, he went into building and running private businesses such as Hermies, The Roller Palace in Cedar City, Utah, Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant in Cedar City, Utah and Casa Bonita Restaurant in St. Geoge Utah. Lowell loved to work hard and expected everyone around him to work just as hard. It was often difficult to keep up with hm.

Lowell had a passion for playing golf. He would take his golf clubs on all his travels across the United States. He loved playing golf in the early morning with the “Old Men’s Group” in Richfield. It was a tradition that when the grandchildren would come to town they would go golf ball hunting with grandpa. All of them loved the time they got to spend with him and he loved spending time with them, also, not to mention all the extra golf balls he had to hit.

A hobby of Lowell’s was shopping at “Garage Sales”. He loved getting a good deal on items. He loved antique furniture and refinishing it. His family has many precious pieces that he lovingly brought back to life.

Every morning Lowell would listen to the radio host, Rush Limbaugh. We would have many discussions about the daily Rush Limbaugh shows. Lowell was always a true conservative.

Lowell was a hard worker! He built his three businesses, a home in Cedar City and he helped many family members and friends with home projects.

Lowell and Juanita served 2 missions, both to Nauvoo, Illinois. He served as the blacksmith there and loved sharing the church history with the visitors. Lowell and Juanita also loved serving as patrons in the Manti Temple. Lowell and Juanita were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple with 3 of their sons.

Lowell loved his family and especially his wife Juanita. He was proud of his 4 sons and all his grandchildren. He has left an everlasting impression on all our hearts. We have many special and sometimes funny memories that we will always hold dear. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Lowell is survived by his wife Juanita Mae; his sons: Alan (Joy) Hermansen, Chris (Kristine) Hermansen, and Brett (Novella) Hermansen; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his oldest son Dave Hermansen who passed way January 16, 2024; and his siblings: Carol, Clark Wayne David and a grandson Justin.

Lowell and Juanita have been living at the Orchards View Assisted Living Center in Payson, Utah, for the past year and a half. They had lived 38 years in Richfield and always considered Richfield their home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard View Assisted Living Center for their loving care.
