Loyd G. Hunt

Bicknell, Utah - Loyd George Hunt, age 84, of Bicknell, passed away June 27, 2006 in Richfield, Utah of causes incident to age. He was born October 20, 1921 in Vermillion, Utah, a son of Andrew and Olive Rozannah Curfew Hunt. He married Inez Brinkerhoff, February 25, 1942 in Evanston, Wyoming. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, July 2, 1953. This union, lasted 64 years until the time of his death. In his early working years, Loyd was active in the family mining business, Hunt Uranium Corporation, and worked in that business on the Colorado Plateau until the early 1960's. As the uranium market slumped, he transitioned to heavy construction work, remaining employed in that industry until his retirement in 1983. Loyd made many friends in the construction industry and was instrumental in the construction of many major highway projects in Southern Utah and the Four Corners Area. He was also very active in community affairs, serving as the mayor of Bicknell, a member of the Wayne County Commission and a member of the Six County Economic Development Commission. Loyd will be remembered by those who knew him well as a raconteur who specialized in stories of lost gold, big deals and good prospects. He will be dearly missed. Loyd and his wife, Inez, were very proud of their family and their many accomplishments and the close-knit relationships they enjoyed. He is survived by his loving wife, Inez of Bicknell; his children: Sandra (Deceased); Candice (Kay) Blackburn, St. George; Marsha (Deceased) and Steve Jackson, Kaysville; George A. (Mary), Gilbert L., all Salt Lake City; Virginia (Thomas A.) Jeffery, Fremont; Lisa (Gary W.) Leaming, Redmond; Natalie (Bruce G.) Morrell, Loa; R. Troy (Nicole), Las Vegas, NV; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Reo V. and Kay L. Hunt. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. or Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
