Luwanna P. Muir

February 3, 1938 — February 24, 2010

Venice, Utah - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, LuWanna Pratt Muir, age 72, died February 24, 2010 in Payson, Utah, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born February 3, 1938 in Escalante, Utah, a daughter of Philo and Mabel Alvey Pratt. She graduated from Escalante High School, Class of 1956. LuWanna started working at Bryce Canyon after her mother died in 1957. She worked there for about three summers then was transferred to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. She worked there for about another three summers. When she came home that year, she started attending church and she guessed Bishop Spencer thought she should go on a mission. LuWanna was called to go to the West Spanish American Mission located in Arizona and California. It was a very challenging time in her life, but it was enjoyable. She later found herself in Richfield, working at the sewing plant with her sister, Loretta. She looked up Maude Reynolds, who was living in Richfield and Maude was very kind to her. Maude was there when her first son was born. LuWanna was introduced to Gene Keith Muir by his sister, Beverly, who was also working at the sewing plant. They were married four months later on June 6, 1968 at the LDS Church in McGill, Nevada. LuWanna and Gene moved to Venice where they have lived for forty-two years. It is a really great place to live. A year later, after they’d settled in, their first son was born, three years later, their second son was born and four years later, their last son, came into the world. They are all great young men. Kenneth lives in Cedar City; Travis and his wife Jaque, live in Richfield and William, their third son, lives in Venice, just up the street from his parents. Travis and Jaque have two children: Devin, who is seventeen years old and Brennan who is four years old. William has two boys, Christopher is five years old and Samuel is two years old. LuWanna held several positions in the LDS Church throughout her life. She enjoyed Visiting Teaching and working in the Relief Society. She served as the Ward Librarian and was a member of the Venice Singing Mothers and worked with the Cub Scouts when her sons were growing up. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Venice Knoll. She enjoyed reading, especially historical fiction; fishing at Pine Lake; hunting and being in the outdoors with her family; working on the genealogy of her ancestors; sewing and crocheting, and finally she loved gazing at the moon. LuWanna said life had been very good to her and that’s all she had to say about that. She will be missed. She is survived by her husband of Venice; her three sons; four grandsons; a sister: Loretta P. Shurtz of Richfield; a brother, Parley and Leda Pratt of Escalante; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and their families who were all loved very much by LuWanna. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister: Roland Alvey Pratt, Vernon Pratt, Robert Pratt, Hazel and Vernon Roe Griffin; and a brother-in-law: Calvin Shurtz. Her mother-in-law, Dora H. Muir, followed her in death two days later, February 26, 2010. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Venice LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Venice, Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Venice Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
