Our kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Lydia Jones Torgerson, age 87, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2021 at her home in Richfield, Utah, surrounded by her family. She was born January 9, 1934 in Torrey, Utah, a daughter of Isaac Rulon and Rebecca May Allen Jones. She attended Wayne High School and 1 year of Cosmetology School in Salt Lake City. Lydia married Nolan Ortega February 25, 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later divorced. She married William “Bud” Torgerson in Koosharem and they were later divorced. Lydia is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Visiting Teacher in the Relief Society. She was a life-long blood donor for the Red Cross because of her very rare blood type. She donated dolls and doll clothes to many local charities. She was an environmentalist. Lydia was a hard worker. She loved crocheting, quilting, knitting and she enjoyed giving it all away. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed camping and walking. She is survived by her children: Nola Mae and Rob Thomasson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lydia Catherine Ortega of Austin; Deonna and Jeff Heath, Marla and Don Thompson, all of Richfield; Albert and Marilee Ortega of Spanish Fork; Anita Ortega of Oregon; Juliann and Carl Hadden of Orem; Yvette and KC Carstensen of Watford City, North Dakota; Bertha and Roland Laird of Cedar City; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings: Allen and LaWana Jones of Salt Lake City; Iris Brinkerhoff of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Carrie Davis of Eureka, California; Maretta Smith of San Diego, California; Verna and Ralph Rollins of Roy; Rula Goniotakis of Alaska; Stanley Jones of Iowa; Gary and JoEllen Jones of West Jordan. She is preceded in death by three children: Marilyn Ortega, Nolan (Sonny) Ortega and Arnold Ortega; two grandsons: Derek Carstensen and Travis Chappell; her parents; and siblings: Audrey DeLeeuw, Colleen Shelley, Gladys Johnson, Remola Woolsey, Juneve Ostberg, and Robert Newell Jones. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 12 Noon in the Richfield 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 985 South 400 West in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services.
