Madge Ekker

Torrey, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Madge Hickman Taft Ekker, age 94, of Torrey, died March 5, 2008 at the home of her son in Taylorsville. She was born May 27, 1913 in Grover, Utah, a daughter of William Deseret and Ida Rosella Arthur Hickman. She married Seth Coleman Taft July 12, 1935 in Torrey, Utah. He died February 10, 1951. She married Richard Benjamin Ekker February 5, 1954 in Torrey, Utah. He died November 19, 2005. Madge was a member of the LDS Church and she loved to knit and make dolls. She was just a “good ol’ farmgirl”, working hard along side her husbands running the farm, doing chores, raising the crops and making a living. She is survived by her son, Bill and Linda Taft of Taylorsville; grandchildren: Michelle and Kyle Mansfield of LaPoint, UT; Deborah and Mark Powell of West Jordan; Scott and Jill Taft of Idaho Falls, ID; Robert and Christy Taft of Stansbury Park; 17 great-grandchildren: Kylie, Landen and Casey Powell; Majen, Ceidra and Jath Mansfield; Alex, Taryn and Rylie Taft; Parker, Pacie, Landon and Presley Taft; Haley, Peyton, Saylor and Paisley Taft. She was preceded in death by a grandson, William Richard Taft; both husbands, Seth Taft and Richard Ekker; sisters and brothers and their spouses: Jet and Walt Smith; Joe and Ida Hickman; Dez and Thelma Hickman; Laura and Orval Mott; and Josiah Hickman. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Torrey LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Monday morning from11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Torrey Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
