Madonna P. Hunt

January 6, 1924 — July 22, 2016

Torrey, Utah - Madonna Peterson Hunt, age 92 of Torrey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 22, 2016 at The Beehive House in Loa. She was born January 6, 1924, in Lyman, Utah, a daughter of Thorvald and Sarah Eleanor Jackson Peterson. Madonna married C. Cleland Hunt, August 9, 1941 in Lyman, Utah, their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Madonna served in the LDS Church as a primary teacher, Young Women's president, Relief Society teacher, and visiting teacher. Madonna was raised on a ranch in Lower Lyman where she worked with her family during the summer, moving to Lyman town during the winter to go to school. She had many fun memories of "The Ranch" in Lyman; growing up with her brothers and sister, climbing everywhere at Big Rocks and floating down the river on a board, even though they couldn't swim. After marriage, Madonna and Cleland lived in Green River, Salt Lake, and Caineville and finally settled in Torrey, together they owned and operated the Hunt Sawmill and Lumber Co., Hunt Apple Orchard, and a ranch in Caineville, Utah. During the 1960's and early 70's Madonna picked fruit for Worthen Jackson who contracted the orchards at Capitol Reef National Park. She also worked at "The Lodge" restaurant and motel in Capitol Reef National Park during the 1970's until it closed; she then worked at The Rim Rock restaurant during the 1980's and 90's. Her favorite job of all time was working for Dixie National Forest Service tidying up Fish Lake and Boulder Mountains, cleaning campsites, restrooms, and around the mountains, she worked for the FS from the late 1990's through 2008 and finally retired at age 85, Madonna then continued quilting and working in her flower and vegetable garden until age 89 when she started to slow down. Madonna is survived by her children, Stanley (Sandra) Hunt, Loa; Priscilla (Carl) Reichert, Mesa, AZ; Deanna (Jerry) LeFevre, Panguitch; Monty Hunt, Torrey; Donita (Jeff) Pace, Torrey; Brenda (Shannon) Davis, Ivins. She has 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren. Madonna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, C. Gary Hunt, a great-granddaughter, Lexis LeFevre, all of her siblings: Ervin Peterson, Susan Martinez, Elmer Peterson, Wahnetta Simons, Luezon Truman and half brothers and sisters: Harold, Clarence, Lawrence, Edgar, Katie, Leah, and Emma Peterson and Irene Peterson Poulson. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, at 1 P.M. in the Torrey LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call that morning from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Torrey City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
