Marguerite B. Hendricks Torrey, Utah - Marguerite Barbara Petrullo Hendricks, age 90, who had been living in Torrey and Grover, Utah since January 2002, died on May 31, 2003 in Grover. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 17, 1913, a daughter of Charles and Anna Maria Frashella Petrullo. She graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, New York, Class of 1932. She received a bachelor’s degree from the Julliard School of Music in 1936 and later earned a Master’s Degree from New York University. She taught music at the Manumit School in Pawling, New York, where she met her future husband, Chester Hendricks. They were married on April 22, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York. They settled in Valhalla, New York, in 1952 and lived there for nearly 50 years. Marguerite taught primary grades, most often kindergarten, for some 27 years in the public schools of Westchester County, New York, including the former Reynolds School in Valhalla, the last one-room schoolhouse in Westchester County. She and her husband particularly enjoyed hiking and camping together across the United States and Canada. In 1988, when she was 75 and her husband was 80, they took a memorable week-long raft trip down the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park. Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, who died on July 23, 2001. She moved to Torrey, Utah in January 2002 to be with her son. She is survived by her sister Marie Petrullo of Valhalla, New York; two sons, Charles Hendricks of Greenbelt, Maryland and Al Hendricks of Torrey, Utah; as well as three grandchildren, Mario and Vera Hendricks, Melina Hendricks and Gabriel Hendricks; and one great grandson, Elliott Hendricks. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. in the St. Anthony of the Desert Catholic Church in Torrey. Additional services will be held at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Valhalla, New York and burial will take place in the Pompton Reformed Church Cemetery in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey.
