Marie D. Stevens

Loa, Utah - Lucy Marie Durfey Stevens, 73, of Loa, Utah, suffered a sudden and severe stroke on the evening of July 3, 2017 and passed away on July 5, 2017 in Provo, Utah surrounded by loving family, both near and far. Marie was welcomed into the world by her adoring parents, Orlo Young and Ellen (Allen) Durfey, on October 16, 1943. She graduated from Wayne High School and attended a year of college at Snow College. She married her loving husband, Vorris Neal Stevens, on November 29, 1963 in Bicknell, Utah and they were sealed in March of 1985 in the St. George Utah Temple. They lived a full life together and were rarely apart. Vorris and Marie created and ran their own business named Stevens Furniture and Locker out of their shop in Loa, Utah, which is still family owned by their son and daughter-in-law. Their love and dedication to each other is a great example to all of their family and friends. Vorris and Marie treated each other with love and tenderness the entire span of their marriage on earth, while experiencing both the struggles and successes of life. Joan Stevens Brinkerhoff, their first child, was born on August 27, 1965 and their second child, Kelly Kay Stevens, was stillborn on July 15, 1968. Vorris and Marie's third child, Reed, joined their family on January 30, 1970. Marie loved her children so much and she was very proud of them and the lives they live. She was her children's biggest fan and taught them to love their spouse and to love all those around them. Marie cherished her family wholeheartedly and very much enjoyed being surrounded by her friends and family. She was so very proud of all of her children (including their spouses), grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was full of life, energy, and a great friend to all. Marie loved watching the Utah Jazz games and was always yelling at the TV, cheering them on and encouraging the Jazz players to play better. She was an incredible friend, sister, mother, wife, and Jazz fan. Marie was very involved in her community and her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served selflessly in her callings within different organizations such as: Primary, Young Women, Boy Scouts, and Sunday School. Vorris and Marie also served a historical mission in Kirtland, Ohio from October 2007-April 2008. Marie will be remembered as a lovely person with a colorful personality and she will be greatly missed because of the great positive influence she has had on so many lives. She had her favorites and loved eating raw radishes, onions, and potatoes. She had a loud and vibrant laugh. She was a great cook and holidays at her house will always be cherished memories. Marie also loved spending time at her family reunion every August. She loved to play card games and would tease about always being the winner (and usually cheated). There were always laughs when Marie was around. She was kind, patient, forgiving, and welcoming to all. She was full of love and rarely got upset. She had a great sense of humor and didn’t take life too seriously. Always creating an atmosphere of love, Marie was known to be a peacemaker. There was nothing mean or jealous about her. She celebrated other’s successes as though they were her own. Marie will live on in the example that she set for her family and friends. She will live on through the kind acts of service for others that she so perfectly exemplified. Marie is survived by her dedicated husband, Vorris; her daughter, Joan (David) Brinkerhoff of Bicknell, UT and her son, Reed (Cindy) Stevens of Loa, UT; her grandchildren Weston (Rachel) Brinkerhoff of Thompson’s Station, TN, Melissa (Taylor) Mellor of Fayette, UT, Kellie (Lane) Gardner of Lawrence, UT, Natasha (Devin) Monroe of Cedar City, UT and Logan Stevens of Loa, UT; her great-grandchildren Ivy(3) and Nash(2) Brinkerhoff, Olivia(3) and Tristen(1) Mellor, and Adalynn(2) Gardner. She is also survived by her sister Elaine (Ross) Davis of St. George, UT and her brother Allen (Connie) Durfey of Bicknell, UT. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Orlo Young and Ellen (Allen) Durfey and her stillborn daughter Kelly Kay Stevens. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Wednesdaymorning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah. “And sometimes if you’re lonely, just remember she can see.
