Marius D. Despain

Axtell, Utah - Marius Deon Despain passed away March 7, 2010 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born April 2, 1935 in Axtell, Utah, a son of Fearon Charles and Isabell Marie Sorenson Despain. He grew up in Axtell and graduated from gunnison valley High school, Class of 1953. He married Martha Kaye Mickelsen, June 1, 1956 in the Manti LDS Temple. Marius was a lifelong member of the Axtell LDS Ward, where he served as Bishop, Bishop’s Counselor, Ward Clerk and in various other positions. Axtell and it’s residents held a special place in his heart. He grew up working on the family farm and in the sugar beet fields of the valley. Marius always worked a full time job but continued to farm most of his life, he never lost his love of farm life. Marius was always a hard worker, even as his health declined he always tried to keep busy. He has tied and quilted hundreds of quilts for family, friends and humanitarian needs. Marius loved spending time with his family. A family activity he especially enjoyed was hunting. But his favorite thing to do was to brag about and spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Kaye, of Axtell; his six children: Lorie and David Beck of Centerfield; Kerry and Nannette Despain, Kevin Mick and Monique Despain, all of Axtell; Greg and Nanette Despain of Smithfield; Julie and Loni Hammond of Dover; Marcie and Doug Aitken of Monticello; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Lavell Despain, twin brother, Merrill Despain, Arlo Despain, Evelyn Murray, Marlene Despain, Carolyn Ellison and Clark Despain. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Carl Edward Despain and his parents, Fearon and Isabell Despain. Marius’ family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jan Johnson and The Community Care Center for their compassionate care, especially the nursing staff of the Care Center. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Axtell LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
