Matthew M. Long

September 5, 1973 — February 28, 2015

Las Vegas, Nevada/Salina, Utah - Matthew Merton Long, age 41, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 5, 1973 in Cedar City, Utah, a son of John Duane and Marsha Ann Mitchell Long. Before the family moved to Sevier County in 1980, Matt was enrolled in the Ruby Thomas School for the Deaf in Las Vegas from age 3 to age 8. Matt then attended schools in both Richfield and Salina. He enjoyed playing many sports including Little League, basketball, and being on the North Sevier High School Golf Team. After having lived in Sevier County for 11 years where he was surrounded by good friends and family, Matt moved to Las Vegas and resided there since 1991. He achieved "Star Performance" status at the New York-New York Hotel where he was employed for 18 years. His passions included Motocross, golfing, hunting, and he was a whiz at technology. Matt especially loved spending time with his family and friends. He was thoughtful and kind to all, had a contagious smile and a fun personality that drew people toward him which enabled him to make friends where ever he went. He is survived by his parents; John D. Long of Salina; Marsha M. and Mike Petty of Parowan; brother and sisters who loved him very much: John M. Long, Jamie and Kenny O'Connell, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; Katie and Scott Gourdin of Gilbert, Arizona, 6 nieces and 2 nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. We will all miss him dearly. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 1:00 P.M. in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, Utah, where friends may call for viewing from 10:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
