Maureen Karst-Wheadon

October 3, 1934 — July 2, 2024

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Sister, and friend, Maureen Madsen Beutler Karst-Wheadon, 89, of Richfield, UT, passed away on July 2, 2024, peacefully in her home. Maureen was born on October 3, 1934, to Harold and Wilva Wrigley Madsen in Monroe, UT.

After High School, she married Ted Beutler (deceased) in Las Vegas, NV on July 25, 1952. They had one daughter Glenna Vee. They were well known and loved in their community because they owned and operated The Little Wonder Cafe for many years. They later divorced and sold the cafe.

Beyond the Little Wonder Café, she worked many jobs in her community. She worked as a bank teller at Central Valley Bank, insurance agent, worked at the movie house and the Richfield golf course to name a few. In her later years of life, she was mostly a caretaker, which she was loved very much for. She also served as President of the Sevier County Senior Center for many years, where she held many activities and was proud of her large yard sales that were truly a success for their fundraising.

She met Robert Karst (deceased) in Salt Lake City, UT and they were married on January 20, 1979, in Elko, NV, where they loved to travel, golf, and spend time at the bowling alley.

Much later in life Maureen met Dean Wheadon, it was a magical time in their life to share their later years. They were married in the Manti LDS Temple on September 11, 2004.

Maureen was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Although she could no longer leave her home to attend church, she loved to participate in sacraments brought to her each Sunday. She served a mission alongside her husband Dean, helping people get back into the workforce. She also did research genealogy for the church.

Throughout Maureen's life she excelled in playing golf. Her life exemplified hard work and a deep passion for golf. Her dedication and skill on the golf course led her to victory in many tournaments, where she displayed her talent and love for the sport. She traveled to many golf courses for the Ladies Golf tournaments, but her love of her home course in Richfield was a favorite.

Maureen touched our lives with her boundless creativity and passion for art, particularly in watercolor. Her artistic talents were a source of joy and inspiration to all who knew her. She entered and won many ribbons in the Richfield art shows. Through her brush strokes, she brought beauty and depth to the world around her, capturing moments of grace and tranquility of florals and the outdoors. Her dedication to her craft was matched only by her kind and gentle spirit, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to share in her artistic journey. She will be deeply missed, but her paintings will live on forever.

She loved her house, she lived there 65 years, and loved being home. She loved doing yard work, having flowers planted and ensuring the grass was always cut just right. At this home, she loved having her grandkids come stay. We all shared various parts of our lives at Grandma's house throughout our years, but we all counted on Grandma to share all her love with us. Visits always included a trip to the Ideal Dairy to get an ice cream or it was guaranteed we would head out to the golf course. Moments with our little Grandma that will never be forgotten.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Wilva Madsen, husband Dean Wheadon, sisters Vera (Derrel) Covington, Lynn (Errol) Rassmussen, son-in-law Gerry Mickelsen, stepson Rick Wheadon, Sister-in-law Louise (Harold) Thalman.

She is survived by her daughter Glenna Vee Mickelsen, stepchildren Keri, Mark, Kristy, Kate, Kimberly, and Joe. grandchildren; Christian Mickelsen, Heather (Dion) Granet, Joe Mickelsen, Holly Mickelsen, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Brothers, Ray Madsen, David Madsen, and Larry Madsen.

We would like to share a special thank you to her friends and close neighbors for keeping an eye on her and just helping take care of her for the past year. Maureen was as healthy as one could be up until 88 years of age, then she had a stroke in July 2023. The last year of her life changed how she did things, but she lived very happily until the end, being strong and living at home.

Graveside Services will be held at Monroe Cemetery on July 11, 2024, at 11:00 am, under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
