Maurine Morley Kennedy Brinkerhoff, 94, passed away Tuesday, May 16th 2017, in Highland Utah , of natural causes. She was born December 27, 1922, in Axtell Utah, the daughter of George and Caroline Nielsen Morley. Her Mother Caroline was the Post Mistress for many years in Axtell and Maurine helped her Father on the farm and worked other various jobs. After graduating from Gunnison High School, she moved to Salt Lake City and found work at Fort Douglas in the homes of Military personnel. That is where she met her first husband, James Kennedy. They had four children together. The oldest child passed away a couple of days after her birth. They later divorced. Maurine met Frank Brinkerhoff and they married May 7th, 1954 and moved with their family to Salt Lake City, where three more children were added to the family. She was a talented seamstress, she could cook anything and made a great home for her family. They were members of the Monument Park 5th Ward in the Sugar House area, and Maurine held many callings, including that of Relief Society President. Maurine and Frank were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, June 12, 1962. Maurine worked at the University of Utah in various positions for 14 years and for American Greeting Card Co. In 1983 Maurine and Frank moved back to Bicknell, Utah where they spent 30 years in retirement. They enjoyed their garden, fishing and traveling, until Frank passed away in 2011. They also served a 6 month Mission for the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints, at Cove Fort, Utah. Maurine is the last living member of her immediate family, but is survived by 5 of her children, Janice (Joe) Crookston, Jean (Jerry) Oswald, Jill (Ron) Corbitt, Margo (Mike) Benard, Marlene (Larry) Myers; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Frank Brinkerhoff and her son Garth Brinkerhoff. The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Glen Assisted Living, in Highland , Utah for overseeing her care the past year. Per Maurine’s request, there will be no viewing or funeral. There was a short graveside service in the Bicknell, Utah Cemetery on Saturday May 20th, 2017 at 11:000 AM under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home. “The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.” Mama, you will be greatly missed.
