Koosharem, Utah - Our beloved father Max Jacob Woolley was called by his Heavenly Father to serve a very special mission. Max Passed away on June 2, 2017 at 100 years old. He was born December 19. 1916 to Mac Otto and Mary Ellen Gregg Woolley (both deceased) in Ryegate, Montana. Max served his country as a P-38 pilot with the 384th Fighter Squadron, 364th Fighter Group, Eighth Air Force, European Theatre of Operations. On his 45th combat mission , June 27, 1944, his P-38 was hit by enemy fire over Belgium forcing him to bail out an being listed as missing in action. His incredible story is told in five military books. After the war Max became a successful artist having have painted over 3,000 paintings for the commercial market. His works are held by several galleries, private collections, and the Cultural Center in Washington D.C. Max married E. Blanche Brown December 5, 1944 in Bakersfield, California. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on April 19, 1954. Blanche passed away on March 24, 2003. He is survived by his son Max Jay and Tina Woolley of Hagerman, Idaho; grandson Zachery Woolley of Hagerman, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his siblings: Robert Woolley, Clarence Woolley, Donna Lessman and Lorraine McColley. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Koosharem LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors provided by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Koosharem Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
