Maxine Peterson Christensen

June 24, 1921 — January 14, 2009

Salina, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Maxine Peterson Christensen, passed away January 14, 2009 at the age of 87. Life and illness had dealt her many challenges the past few years and she succumbed peacefully in Gunnison, Utah, of complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born June 24, 1921 in Monroe, Utah, a daughter of Neils and Real Pearl Gardner Peterson. She graduated from Monroe High School, Class of 1939. She married the love of her life, Howard LaMar Christensen, June 10, 1939 in Richfield, Utah. He died July 11, 2004, after 65 years of matrimonial bliss. Maxine was a member of the LDS Church, where she served as a Primary Teacher, Relief Society Visiting Teacher and a Scout Leader for over 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She organized the Childhood Immunization Clinic in Salina for many years. Howard and Maxine were avid gardeners and you would be hard pressed to find a weed anywhere in their garden. Maxine enjoyed canning the fruits of their labors in the fall, to enjoy throughout the winter months. She also enjoyed baking homemade cakes, cookies and pies. Mom is survived by her children: LaMar and Lin Christensen of Lovell, Wyoming; LaMont and LarSena Christensen of West Valley City; Jerald and Donna Christensen of Winnemucca, Nevada; Jeannene and Dee Keisel, Carolee and Daryl Noyes, Marvin “Harve” (deceased) and Paula Christensen, all of Salina; 19 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; her son, Harve; three brothers and two sisters: Harold Peterson, Glen Peterson, William “Bill” Peterson, Mildred P. Jensen and Clarice P. Walker. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 19, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the Stake Center, Monday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
