Mckay "Mack" Mickelsen

Salina, Utah - McKay Mickelsen, wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and good friend to all, age 84, returned to his Heavenly Father on November 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Salina. He was born September 3, 1933 in Salina, to Fred and Bernice Rasmussen Mickelsen. McKay or Mack as he was known by his closest friends and co-workers went to school in Salina and graduated from North Sevier High School and then attended BYU in Provo. He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Shaw, December 18, 1952 in the Manti LDS Temple. They were blessed with six children. McKay was called into the army in 1953, only five months after his marriage and he served his country in California and Baumholder, Germany until 1955. After his return, he and Shirley lived in Orem for 18 years where he managed service stations. They then returned to Salina where he worked construction for 30 plus years. He also worked at the coal mine for a few years. McKay was well known as a Top Notch Mechanic. He was also known for having the best garden and most beautiful yard in town. Dad enjoyed anything outdoors including hunting, fishing and camping, but most of all he loved being with his family. McKay served in various church callings in the LDS Church. The one he enjoyed the most was serving a mission with his wife at the Sigurd Cannery. McKay is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley, of Salina; children: Dennis and Leslie Mickelsen of Beaver; Kent and Kris Mickelsen of Aurora; James (deceased) and Analee Mickelsen of Riverton; Linda and Bart Kiesel of Salina; Cindy and Scott Larsen of Nephi, Fred and Donna Mickelsen of Aurora; 41 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Vaun and Mary Kay Mickelsen of Manti; sister-in-law: Colleen Mickelsen of Morgan. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, James L. Mickelsen; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Rose Kiesel; sister: LaPreal and brother-in-law, Dick Cary; brother: Lynn Mickelsen; sister-in-law: Ruth Mickelsen. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Gunnison Hospital and Gunnison Hospice. Words cannot express our appreciation for the care and compassion shown to McKay and our family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 12:00 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
