Melva Johnson Rosequist

Las Vegas, Nevada/ Elsinore, Utah - Melva Johnson Rosequist, age 82, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died December 5, 2010 in Las Vegas. She was born June 26, 1928 in Elsinore, Utah, a daughter of Alvin Forest and Dorthea Christle Hermansen Johnson. She graduated from South Sevier High School. She married Gardell J. Rosequist, July 1, 1947 in Marysvale, Utah. To this union came one son, Larry J. Rosequist. Gardell and Melva were divorced in 1971. Shortly after she was married, Melva and Gardell moved to Henderson, Nevada and then to Las Vegas, where she has since resided. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in several different callings. Melva had many fond memories of growing up in Elsinore and was very proud of her Danish heritage. She cherished her experiences of attending UNLV, studying archeology and history and being able to travel with friend to Mexico, New Zealand and Australia, where she learned of new cultures and people. She had great talent, which was inherited from her parents, such as wood working, painting and making quilts. She also loved the outdoors, where she enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and studying rock formations. She took great care in her home and her appearance and will be most remembered as the blond hair beauty. Melva’s family recognizes the selfless acts of love and charity that was given by Retta Davis, who took care of Melva over the past 30 years. Melva is survived by her son, Larry J. Rosequist, of Ely, Nevada; sister and brother: Kathryn Irene Johnson Sawyers of Tooele and Jerald Elden Johnson of Monroe; her long time friend and care giver, Retta Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many special friends. We will all miss her dearly. Grave side services will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 12:00 Noon in the Elsinore Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Elsinore LDS Ward Chapel, Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Elsinore Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
