Mike Wood

Mesa, AZ/Lyman, UT - Our kind and beloved son, brother, uncle, father and grandfather, Michael Wood, age 69, died July 8, 2009 at his home in Mesa, Arizona. He was born, March 16, 1940 in Lyman, Utah, a son of Ivan and Mildred “Millie” Chappell Wood. He graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1958. He attended a technical college and graduated in diesel mechanics. Mike served an LDS Mission in the North British Mission from 1961-63. He served in the US Coast Guard. Mike was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in various positions. He was a volunteer at the Welfare Cannery and enjoyed attending the Temple regularly. Mike loved traveling, dancing, riding his motorcycle and restoring his El Camino. He had talents ranging from heavy construction, cooking and baking to entertaining his friends. He enjoyed having the “latest and greatest” in home and personal computer technology. Mike is survived by his his parents, Ivan and Millie Wood of St. George; four sisters: Sandra Mae and James Stoddard of West Jordan; Karla and Jack E. Finnegan of South Jordan; Trena Wood of St. George; Margaret and Gary Atkinson of Sandy; son, Jesse Wood of Salt Lake City; 3 grandchildren: Tyler Jessie Wood, Kayla Marie Wood and Dylan Paul Wood, all of Salt Lake City; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 1:00 P.M in the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Dana Ranch LDS Ward Chapel, 1266 South 32nd Street in Mesa, Arizona, Sunday evening, July 12, 2009 from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Lyman, Tuesday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Lyman Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
