Gunnison, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Miles Herbert Jensen, age 94, died November 9, 2009 in Centerfield, Utah. He was born December 27, 1914 in Centerfield, a son of Anton Willard and Ellen Elizabeth Tyzack Jensen. He married Celia Pickett, December 13, 1940 in the Manti LDS Temple. Miles was an active member of the LDS Church. He served a Mission to Texas from 1937-1940 and one to Nigeria with his wife, Celia, from 1980-81. Miles served as Bishop of the Gunnison First Ward. Under the direction of Apostles, Spencer W. Kimball and Mark E. Peterson, Miles organized the LDS Indian Student Placement Program in the late 1940's. He is survived by his wife, Celia, of Gunnison; his children: Elizabeth Jensen of Gunnison; Carma and Gary Sagers of Salt Lake City; Jeraldene (Paul, deceased) Swalberg of Pleasant Grove; Janet and Dick Baldwin of Farmington; Gordon and Linda Jensen of Brigham City; Herbert and Vicki Jensen of Herriman; numerous foster children; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and many foster grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister: Mardell Jensen of Centerfield and Norma Larsen of Murray. He was preceded in death by a sister, Berniece Manwill, a brother, Gail Jensen, and his twin sister, Mildred Jensen. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 12 Noon in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite humanitarian charity.
