Morris E. Nelson

Morris E. Nelson Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather Salina/Monticello, Utah - Morris Edmond Nelson, age 86, passed away April 27, 2003 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born on the beautiful island of Laie Aaha, Hawaii, a son of George and Rose M. Morris Nelson on May 2, 1916. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School, Class of 1935. He attended Phoenix Junior College for two years before he was called to serve an LDS Mission to Argentina. He graduated from BYU and later joined the Coast Guard. After completing his officers training, he married Gwen Vier Bailey in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple, March 16, 1942. Gwen died April 10, 2002. Morris was a contractor and taught school in the San Juan school district for 20 years. He served as Mayor of Monticello and was also on the City Council. He was active in the LDS Church and held numerous positions. He loved a beautiful yard and roses. He is survived by his daughter: Dian and Kelly Hendricksen of Salina; five grandchildren: Mike Rowley, Vivian Sorenson, Kerry, Kirt and Brady Baker; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a daughter, Vivian Rowley. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2003 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Thursday from 11:00 to 11:45 prior to the services. Graveside services and burial will be Friday, May 2, 2003 at 12 Noon in the Monticello City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
