Murrell W. Lyman

October 13, 1942 — July 9, 2021

Fayette, Utah – Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Murrell Waynard Lyman, age 78, passed away July 9, 2021 at his home in Fayette after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born October 13, 1942 in Fayette, a son of Glen Hunter and Lillian Mellor Lyman. He grew up in Fayette, where he loved playing softball, riding horses and hunting deer. He graduated from Gunnison Valley High School, Class of 1961. He attended Snow College and SUU. He got a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology and later received his Elementary Education Certification. He taught school at a boarding school in Arizona, but most of his life he taught Elementary School in Gunnison. Murrell served his country in the US Army during the Viet Nam Conflict. He was stationed in Germany. Murrell married Elaine Jensen September 17, 1965 in the Manti LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2003. He married Marcia Brandon October 27, 2004. Murrell is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a full time mission in Texas; serving as Bishop in Fayette, Bishop’s Counselor, Clerk, Branch President; and a Senior Mission with his wife, at the Temple and Family History Center in Salt Lake City. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, farming, gardening, 4-wheeling, doing family history and indexing. Murrell was very devoted to his family and serving others. He was intelligent, artistic, a perfectionist, fix-it man, and master story teller (The Hairy Toe). He loved his home and being in the mountains. He raised a good family and his wish was for them all to be happy. Murrell is survived by his wife, Marcia, his children: Laura and Mike Frey, Marie and Brandon Jensen, Gregory and Angie Lyman, Bryan and Katie Lyman, all of Fayette; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris Lambertsen of Parowan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Lillian Lyman; his first wife, Elaine Lyman; a daughter, Julie Griffith; siblings: Rodney Lyman, Robert Jackson and Beth Christiansen. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. in the Fayette Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Fayette LDS Ward Chapel, Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. Burial with military honors accorded by the Centerfield American Legion Post #105 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Fayette Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
