Reno, Nevada - Our kind and loving mother, sister, aunt and friend, Nedra Tanner Hanks, age 85, passed away September 16, 2017 in Provo, Utah. She was born June 21, 1935 in Fremont, Utah, a daughter of Jesse Hilma and Rosella Morrell Tanner. She graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1952. She married Maynard Allen Hanks of Grover, Utah, November 25, 1953 in the Manti LDS Temple, after graduating from Wayne High School, where they both were active in sports and extra-curricular activities. They moved to Las Vegas, Nevada for the first 10 years of their marriage where all three children were born. They were married for 56 years before Maynard died December 31, 2009. Nedra was a member of the LDS Church. She worked for United States Postal Service. She worked her way up the ranks in the Postal Service, starting as a mail clerk in Las Vegas, Nevada and retiring as the Director of Finance at Reno's Main Post Office. She was a pioneer of female achievement in a male dominated field in the 1970's and 1980's. Nedra loved gardening, music and collecting American Indian handicrafts. She was an avid golfer who enjoyed tournament play in the Reno area. Nedra and Maynard enjoyed trips to Mexico, Yellowstone and Utah in recent years prior to Maynard's passing. They had also visited Australia and New Zealand to visit Paula, their first born child. Nedra will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children: Paula Hanks of Australia; Douglas K. Hanks of San Francisco, California and Gary Hanks of Reno, Nevada; sister, Hilma T. Brinkerhoff of Orem; sisters-in-laws: Carolyn T. Reese of Meridian, Idaho; Gladys Johnson Tanner of Hanksville. She is preceded in death by herparents; her husband of 56 years, Maynard; siblings: Colleen T. Jeffery; J. Blair Tanner; George Vernon Tanner, Douglas Bruce Tanner, Iris Tanner and Rosella Tanner; sister-in-law: Colleen Brinkerhoff Tanner; and brothers-in-law: Stanley Brinkerhoff and Garn Jeffery. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Fremont Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
