Norman Rex Tanner

August 14, 1929 — July 30, 2012

Loa/Cedar City, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Norman Rex Tanner, age 82, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his hunting camp near Loa, Utah on Monday, July 30, 2012. He was born August 14, 1929 in Nephi, Utah, a son of Rutherford Orden and Nina Lucille Painter Tanner. Norm served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army from 1948 to 1952, where he received three Bronze Stars and two Purple Heart Medals. He married Glenda Christensen, October 6, 1951 in Loa, Utah. She died June 5, 1971. He married Cheryl M. Morris, November 6, 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later divorced. He married Becky Bass, June 16, 1987 in Cedar City, Utah. They were later divorced. He married Diane Rhoads, August 23, 1993 in Cedar City. Norm was a member of the LDS Church. He loved to fish and hunt. Norm was a hard worker, working at full speed from dawn until dusk. He enjoyed building and remodeling and spent many hours doing just that. He loved to play as much as he loved to work. Norm is survived by his wife, Diane of Loa and Cedar City; his children: Norman Eugene and Brenda Tanner of Redmond; Orden Rex Tanner of Lyman; Mayland Rutherford Tanner and Darlene Tanner, both of Salt Lake City; Roy Tanner and Alden Ray Tanner, both of Saratoga Springs; and Audrey Tanner of Denver, Colorado; numerous loving step-children; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Ruthaleen “Polly” Knezek of Odessa, Texas; Gwen and Glen Stephenson of Levan. He is preceded in death by his father, Rutherford Orden Tanner; his mother, Nina Tanner Chappell; his step-father, Lee R. Chappell; two brothers: Charles M. Tanner and Ferron D. Tanner. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #982 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina,Utah. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Zions Bank in the name of Norman Rex Tanner.
