Otis Shelley

December 28, 1925 — April 3, 2006

Bicknell, Utah - Arnold Otis Shelley, age 80, of Bicknell, died April 3, 2006 in Provo, Utah. He was born December 28, 1925 in Baun Jellico Creek, Kentucky, a son of John Steven and Mahala Ethel Parks Shelley. Otis served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in the US Army Medical Corp. Otis married Colleen Jones, June 28, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the LDS Church, where he served as a scout leader. He was a hunter safety instructor and a member of the Wayne County Jeep Posse; an EMT on the Wayne County Ambulance, and a member of the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92. He worked for the US Forest Service for 26 years where he was a Forest Technician. He was also a miner, mining uranium. Otis enjoyed woodworking, gardening, lapidary, the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of Bicknell; children: Judy Mae Hunt of Roy; Sharlene and Robert Menefee of Teasdale; Renee and Randall Rasmussen of Layton; Steven and Jewell Shelley of North Salt Lake; Hayle Shelley of Bicknell; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 brothers and 6 sisters: Rose Elizabeth Steeley, Selma Lou McGee and Billy Ray Shelley, all of Corbin, KY; Mandy Cleo Wetzel of Madison Heights, MI; Lewis Nathan Shelley of Milton, FL; Jessie Wilma Andrews of Careyville, TN; Cleda Ruth Hall of West Carrollton, OH; Morris Lee Shelley of Williamsburg, KY; William Chester Shelley of Hazel Park, MI; Donnie Gene Shelley of Mounds, OK; Hazel Berniece Smith of Florence, KY; and Johnny Leonides Shelley of Cleaves, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stanley Arnold Shelley; a brother, Harvey Oscar Shelley and a sister, Mary Ellen Shelley. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
