Pat Kelly

November 1, 1917 — March 25, 2010

Tooele/Centerfield, Utah - Wallace Patrick Kelly, age 92, passed away at the Community Living Center in Centerfield, Utah on March 25, 2010. He had suffered months from injuries he received in a fall he had, just before Christmas 2008. He has been in the hospital and rehab for several months. Pat, as he was lovingly know, and his wife, Zelma, moved to Centerfield in 2009. Pat was born November 1, 1917 in Ophir, Utah, a son of Wallace Patrick and Maude Lydia Weimer Kelly. He had one brother, Douglas, who married Gloria Bartholomew from Mayfield, Utah. Pat’s parents, brother and sister-in-law, all preceded him in death. Pat’s family was interested in mining and he enjoyed working in the mine with his father and uncle. Ophir has a special place in Pat’s heart. Pat served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. His basic training in Wichita Falls started him as a radio operator and mechanic, and he was sent to Illinois and Baton Rouge for more training. He was then sent to Casablanca, the desert of Tunisia, where he was stationed until the North African Campaign ended. His next place was West Algeria and then on to a town called Taher, which was Arab Country. After Pat had served his country, he returned to Ophir and started working at Tad Park, a military base south of Tooele. It was at this time, Zelma Jensen was teaching at the elementary school at Tad Park and had met Pat. After courting, they were married on May 31, 1946 in Centerfield, Utah. The newlywed couple made their home in Tooele, and have lived there for sixty two years, where Pat worked for the Tooele Army Depot. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at the Community Living Center in Centerfield, for all they have done to help Pat and Zelma. Your cares and concerns are deeply appreciated. Thank you so much. Pat is survived by his wife, Zelma Kelly and by two nephews, David and Michael Kelly; brothers and sisters-in-law: Eugene and Nancy Jensen, Mardell and Elva Jensen, all of Centerfield; and numerous nieces and nephews on the Jensen side of the family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Centerfield 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 210 South Main Street, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Centerfield American Legion Post #105 will be in the Centerfield Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
