Salina, Utah - Paul LeRoy Braithwaite, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away August 24, 2011 at his home in Salina, at the age of 69. He was born July 30, 1942 at his grandmother’s house in Manti, Utah, a son of Homer Ray “Dude” and Helen Larsen Braithwaite. Due to his family’s frequent moves as a youth, Paul attended several schools in Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. He graduated from Burges High School in El Paso, Texas in 1960. During high school, Paul played the saxophone in the school band and was an early member of the Bobby Fuller Four dance band. Paul attended Durham Business College and served in the United States Army Reserves in Texas. On June 21, 1969, Paul married the love of his life, Pamela Ann Bartholomew of Fayette, Utah, in the Manti LDS Temple. After beginning their life together in Texas, Paul and Pam relocated to Utah, where they raised their five children. Throughout his adult life, Paul held various jobs, most notably in the grocery business. For several years, he also served his country as a member of the 1st Battalion, 145th Field Artillery Unit of the Utah National Guard Unit in Manti, Utah. Paul was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and held many different positions in the Church. His kindness, patience and joy for simple things were a great example to his family and others. Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Pamela of Salina, and their five children: Paul and Staci Braithwaite of Prescott, Arizona; Ryan and Mandy Braithwaite of Sandy; Cody and Merry Braithwaite of Penfield, New York; Ann and Dale Whimpey of Heber City; Chan and Jill Braithwaite of North Ogden; 16 grandchildren with one on the way; brothers and sisters: Ted and Marilyn Braithwaite of El Paso, Texas; Stan (Keena) Braithwaite of Longmont, Colorado; Denise Shand of Manti and Deanna Braithwaite of Riverton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law: Dean and Darlene Bartholomew; and a brother-in-law: Francis Shand. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Graveside services and burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Manti City Cemetery Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 P.M. under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
