Pearl Christensen

Elsinore, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Pearl Yergensen Barney Christensen, age 94, of Elsinore, died March 17, 2009 in Richfield, Utah. She was born April 10, 1914 in Monroe, Utah, a daughter of Niels Mathew and Magdalina Christensen Yergensen. She graduated from South Sevier High School. Pearl married Vernon L. Barney, August 28, 1934 in Monroe. He died August 15, 1944. She married Gerald H. Christensen March 14, 1945 in the Manti LDS Temple. He died January 5, 1974. Pearl was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in all the auxiliaries. She especially enjoyed quilting with the Relief Society. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Pearl always had a beautiful flower garden, and was a wonderful oil painter. She made braided and sewn rugs for her family and friends. She also crocheted many beautiful items, made many beautiful quilts and sewed clothing. She worked at Pacific Trails, making coats for over 20 years. Pearl is survived by her three children and their spouses: Val Jean and Don Holgate of Monroe; Ann and Larry Julander of Elsinore; Pete and Allison Christensen of Winnemucca, Nevada; 13 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth Barney; three sisters and one brother: Ruth Butler, Ilean Sorensen, Hope Salt, Delbert Yergensen; a grandson, Chad Holgate; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Holgate; and both husbands. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Elsinore LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
