Pete T. Merayo

July 6, 1953 — December 30, 2023

Pete Thomas Merayo passed away Saturday December 30, 2023 in his home in Monroe after a long and courageous battle with cancer.


He was born July 6,1953 to Shirley Reynolds and Edward Augustine Merayo in Gallup, New Mexico. He has three younger siblings: Carol Reynolds, Effard Merayo, and Edward (Eddie) Merayo. Pete grew up in Glenwood, New Mexico. He loved sports of any kind and lettered in football. He graduated from Reserve High School. Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972 where he served aboard the U.S.S Pogy until 1975


He married Carol Faye Sanders on June 9, 1973. Together they had four children; Tina (Todd) Russel, Gordon (Trishell) Merayo, Sean (Amy) Merayo, and William Merayo. Their posterity includes 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. They later divorced.


Pete married Beth Merayo on March 31, 1995. They moved to Monroe Utah in 2004 where they spent many years working together as Respiratory Therapists at the Sevier Valley Hospital.


Music was Pete’s passion in life. Inspired by Merle Haggard, he was the #1 Hag fan! Pete played guitar and sang all across Sevier County. He was a true entertainer and beloved by all who met him. Pete had a big personality. His laugh will be forever remembered. He had a tender heart and was always willing to give of his time, talents, and money. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities. He was a talented craftsman and could turn ordinary chunks of wood into beautiful pieces of art. Pete was an amazing father, husband, and friend. He will be dearly missed, until we meet again.


Funeral Services will be held in Grants, New Mexico at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1010 Bondad Ave, at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 6, 2024. Interment will be in the Luna Cemetery in Luna, New Mexico under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
