Phill Nielsen

October 5, 1920 — December 1, 2006

Fremont, Utah - Phill Nielsen, age 86, died December 1, 2006 in Richfield, Utah, after a lingering illness. He was born October 5, 1920 in Salina, Utah, a son of Terry James and Dora Jane Bird Nielsen. He graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1938. In 1942 he joined the United States Army and served his country during World War II. Phill married Beryl Nielsen, April 20, 1946 in Marysvale, Utah. They were later divorced. He married Nita Pierce Taylor, February 10, 1973 in Loa, Utah. She died May 19, 1988. He then married Verla Mae Edwards Taylor, January 5, 1989 in Yuma, Arizona. Phill managed the Salina Feed and Supply Store for over 20 years in Salina. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction and he retired as Warehouse Manager at the Huntington Power Plant. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and most of all fishing. He would fish all day long, if he could of. Phill was a member of the LDS Church. Phill and Verla enjoyed spending the winters as “snowbirds” in Yuma, Arizona for 15 years. Phill is survived by his wife, Verla, of Fremont; his children: Jackie and Mike Terrell of West Valley City; Denny and Shauna Nielsen of Lost Creek; Shanna and Rod Winkel of Richfield; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; step-children: Evelyn and Clenn Okerlund of Lyman; Ted and Peggy Taylor of Loa; Lois and Gary Croman of Alburn, CA; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters: Helen (Derell, deceased) Barney of Pleasant Grove; Doreen and Lee Colby of Roy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill and his wife, Virgie Nielsen. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
