Phyllis F. Shaheen

February 13, 1926 — February 13, 2013

Salina, Utah - Phyllis Fern Foote Shaheen, 87,of Salina, passed away suddenly on her birthday, February 13, 2013 at Sevier Valley Hospital in Richfield Utah. She was surrounded by her immediate family, who were her pride and joy. Phyllis was born February 13, 1926 in Salina Utah, a daughter of John Ammon Foote Jr. and Nellie Curtis Foote. She married Nicholas George Shaheen, June 2, 1945 in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, September 18, 1976. Nick passed away August 17, 2004. Phyllis met Nick after writing him while he was hospitalized after an injury he suffered in World War Two. His brother Ellis was in the Civilian Corps (C.C. Boy) stationed in Salina. Ellis met and married Phyllis’ sister Beula and they encouraged for the two to meet. Phyllis traveled to San Antonio, Texas where Nick was hospitalized and met Nick and later married. The two families were successful business owners of Shaheen's Café and Motel and Shaheen’s Best Western Motel and Restaurant in Salina. Phyllis' greatest achievement and joy was that of being a very involved mother and grandmother. Seldom did a grandchild leave her home without a meal or check in hand. She was a second mother and best friend to many of her grandchildren. Phyllis was also an immaculate and proficient homemaker. She demonstrated dignity and class in all her actions and appearance. She exemplified honesty and humility. Phyllis had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and of her Heavenly Father. She raised her children in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. She demonstrated her discipleship by serving others and being a righteous example to all. She was Stake Primary President and Relief Society president along with many other church callings. Nick and Phyllis were long time temple workers at the Manti Temple. This was a calling that they both loved and respected. They also served for many years at the Richfield Genealogy Center. They accomplished temple ordinances for many of their family members. Phyllis and Nick have three children: Nicholas Bruce (Marcia) Shaheen, St George: Larry Joseph (MiShele) Shaheen, Salina: Dixie (Kreig) Rasmussen, Salina: 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and 2 more expected. Preceded in death by her parents; husband and sisters. Sisters include; Lois Foote; Velma (Howard) Albrecht; Wilma Wilkinson Alverson (Lynn-Al); Beula (Ellis) Shaheen. Funeral Services will be held February 18th at 12:00 noon in the Salina 3rd Ward Chapel, 85 South 100 East. Friends may call Sunday 6-8 pm and Monday 10:30 to 11:30 in the Salina 3rd Ward cultural hall. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina Utah. The family would like to personally thank Dr. Mark W Greenwood and Nurse Sheila Jenson along with Sevier Valley Hospital for their expert care and compassion.
