Phyllis J. Sorensen

October 14, 1916 — October 22, 2006

Aurora, Utah - Our kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Phyllis Jensen Sorensen, age 90, died October 22, 2006 at her home in Aurora, just nine months after the death of her beloved husband, Keith. She was born October 14, 1916 in Centerfield, Utah, a daughter of Brigham Richard and Sarah Eliza Williams Jensen. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School, Class of 1934. She married Keith L. Sorensen December 16, 1936 in the Manti LDS Temple. Keith died January 8, 2006. Phyllis was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society as teachers and counselors. In their younger years, Phyllis and Keith operated a café in Aurora, where the food and service soon gave them a great reputation and was supported by most of the truckers traveling highway 89. They also opened Sorensen County Store in Aurora, with their son, Kevin. Phyllis supported her husband in his vault business and helped him gain a reputation of being fair and honest. Phyllis and Keith are the proud parents of 5 daughters and 1 son: Gaylia and Terral Huntsman, Suzette and Robert Maxwell, all of Sandy; Leanna and Gail Madsen, Sheila Sorensen, all of Salina; Iris (Gerald, deceased) Bradshaw of Arvada, CO; Kevin and Becky Sorensen of Aurora; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Sybil Westlund of Salt Lake City; and a brother, Phillip Black of Lehi. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Gwen, Orson and Warren; and 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 12 Noon in the Aurora 1st LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Thursday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
