Randy Lewis Sargent, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 76 at his home in Richfield. He was born July 15, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Keith Webster Sargent and Flora Beth Weber Sargent, and grew up with a love for adventure, the great outdoors, and a whole lot of mischief. He often spoke fondly of his childhood—hunting and fishing with his Grandpa Weber, raising a ruckus, and making memories that became cherished family stories.
A gifted athlete, Randy attended South High School, where he excelled as a football player. But his greatest victory in life was winning the heart of his sweetheart, Judy. The two were married on August 12, 1967, in Elko, Nevada, and together they built a beautiful life, raising three children in South Jordan, Utah.
Randy honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a helicopter crew chief and mechanic during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication earned him numerous commendations, including the Purple Heart, Air Medals with Bronze Numerals, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Air Crew Insignia with three stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Though he rarely spoke of his service, his quiet strength and sacrifice left a lasting legacy.
An avid outdoorsman, Randy found joy in hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and spending time teaching his family to love the outdoors. He was happiest with a fishing pole or golf club in hand, a hunting rifle over his shoulder, or sitting around a campfire, sharing laughter with lifelong friends. His craftsmanship as a master finish carpenter was unmatched—he skillfully created stunning, handcrafted keepsakes that his children and grandchildren will treasure forever.
Randy was a man of action rather than words, always willing to lend a hand and serve others quietly. Though a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he lived his faith through hard work and unwavering love for his wife and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Judy Sargent of Richfield, Utah; his three children: Troy Sargent (Joanna), Shanin Chamberlain (Jon), and Amber Maio (Tony); and his grandchildren: Kali Pickett (Travis), Kaitlyn Flake (Jon), Gavin Sargent (Jessie), Abby Maio (Sarah), Braden Chamberlain (Megan), Michael Maio (Emily), Emeree Sargent, Treven Sargent, and Livia Sargent. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Milo, Finley, Zoey, Griffin, Jade, Lennon, and Millie, as well as his siblings JoAnn Sargent Ramos and Thayne Sargent, four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Keith, Kae, Jim, and Janis.
Randy lived a life defined by love, honor, and quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, the family he loved, and the beautiful craftsmanship of his hands. He will be deeply missed.
