Richard Ball Bean

November 6, 1923 — July 4, 2011

Koosharem, Utah - Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Richard Ball Bean, passed away July 4, 2011 surrounded by his family, at the home of his son in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born November 6, 1923 in Salt Lake City, a son of Leland Stanford and Dorothy Ball Bean. At a very young age, his father passed away and he and his brother were raised by their mother and grandmother. After graduating from high school, Richard joined the US Navy, where he served as a Bombardier on a B-24 in the Pacific, during World War II. While on leave, he met the love of his life, Geneal Sampson, and they were married after just two weeks on January 1, 1945 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. They spent 66 wonderful years together, fishing and exploring Southern Utah. Genie died December 22, 2010. Richard worked as an Engineer at EIMCO. After his retirement, he and Genie moved to Koosharem where they have lived for the past 20+ years, making friendships that they will cherish forever. He is survived by his children: Leslie Mascaro; Dick and Dorothy Bean; Tom and Nevien Bean; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Genie; and a brother Stanford. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 12 Noon in the Koosharem LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Koosharem Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
