Aurora/Washington City, Utah - Richard Lee Cosby left his earthly home to join many loved ones in the spirit world on October 13, 2009, after a short battle with liver cancer. He was born, March 19, 1947 in Inglewood, California, the third son of Melvin Powell and Dora Angle Cosby. He attended schools in Gilbert, Arizona and Escondido, California. He graduated in the first class of Orange Glen High school in Escondido in 1965. In 1966, he joined the US Navy. He was stationed in Sasebo, Japan for two years during the Vietnam Conflict, serving on a minesweeper. He returned to Escondido to marry his high school sweetheart, Luella Margaret Gill on September 14, 1968. To that marriage were born two special spirits, David “Randy” Randall Powell Cosby and Amy Christine Cosby. Their marriage and family were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George LDS Temple in March of 1986. They moved to Washington, Utah in October of 1986. Automobiles were Richard’s first love. He worked for several car dealerships in his career, both in California and Utah. Starting at age 12, he was a gas station attendant, then a mechanic, finishing his career in the automotive field as the parts and service manager at Painter’s Chrysler in St. George. For the past 13 years, Richard worked in the maintenance departments for Intermountain Healthcare at both Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George and Sevier Valley Medical Center in Richfield. He retired from IHC in May of this year with plans to fish, hunt, ride his ATV and spend time with his grandkids and family. Richard loved woodworking and many children were the recipients of rocking chairs and cradles that he lovingly made. Richard was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions in the Elder’s Quorum and High Priest Group. He was also on the High Council and taught the 16-18 year old Sunday School Class. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Luella Cosby of Auroa; son: David “Randy” and his wife, Amy Cosby of Ivins; grandchildren: Sara Rosecrans of Crescent Valley, Nevada; Amber, Rachel, Clarissa, David and Daniel Cosby, all of Ivins; brothers: Jim and Barbara Cosby, Larry and Leila Cosby, all of Aurora; special sister, Gail Butler of Mayfield; many nieces, nephews and other family members and good friends.
