Rick Cooper

March 23, 1952 — January 14, 2011

Elko, Nevada/Redmond, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, John Richard “Rick” Cooper, age 58, of Elko, and formerly of Redmond, died January 14, 2011 in Salt Lake City. He was born March 23, 1952 in Durango, Colorado, a son of John Wesley and Eilene McCarthy Cooper. He graduated from Eagle Mountain High School in Eagle Mountain, California. He married Vickie Avonne Ivy, October 24, 1970 in Eagle Mountain. Rick served his country in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1974. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Rick spent most of his time with his wife, Vickie, the love of his life for 40 years. He also cherished spending time with his children and their families. Rick loved life and enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, horse back riding, boating and camping. He is survived by his wife, Vickie, of Elko; children: Brian and Angela Cooper, Michelle and Rodger Brazell, all of Richfield; Alicia and Blu Beckstead of Salina; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; parents, John and Eilene Cooper of Sunnyside; brothers and sister: Gary and Bonnie Cooper of Grand Junction, Colorado; Ron and Pam Cooper of Craig, Colorado; Cindy and Jim Forness of Spring Creek, Nevada; Woody Cooper of Sunnyside; a sister-in-law: Val Chartier of Salina. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Richard Cooper; his parents-in-law: Claude and Marine Ivy; and two brothers-in-law: Claude Ivy and Craig Chartier. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, with Pastor Jonathan Edwards of the Marysvale Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Redmond American Legion Post #118 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Redmond Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
