Beaver / Salina – Robert Burton White Jr, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away August 9th, 2011. He was 87 years old. He was born March 2, 1924 in Beaver, Utah a son of Robert Burton, and Martha Isabelle White. He grew up in Beaver and graduated from Beaver High School. Robert served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp as a gunner instructor. He returned home to marry his sweetheart Elinor Bradshaw. He attended Utah State University graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in Agricultural Education. He taught at North Eastern Jr. College, in Sterling Colorado for three years.In 1952 he went to work for First National Bank of Wray, Colorado as an Agricultural Manager for five years. Over the next fifty years he enjoyed the challenges of the banking industry, with the exception of the ever increasing regulatory burdens. He was the leading force in opening and running five successful independent community banks including, State Bank of Southern Utah in Cedar City, American Security Bank in San Bernardino, California, and the Utah Independent Bank branches in Salina, Beaver, and Monroe. He served on the board of the Utah Bankers Association, and also as chairman of that association for a year. He also served as a delegate for the American Bankers Association. He has been president of both the Rotary Club, and the Lions Club, and he was a board member of the Chamber of Commerce. Bob was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the gospel, and he held many different positions in the church. He served in four stake presidencies, and he was the first stake president of the College of Southern Utah Stake. The service he rendered, and the way he lived his life was a great example to others. He loved horses. He enjoyed going on pack trips, hunting, and most of all spending time with family at their cabin on Navajo Lake. Robert is survived by his loving wife Elinor, and their five children: Cheryl (George) Newton of Morgan; Brent (Julie) White of Elsinore; Craig (Julie) White of Beaver; Susan Williams of Redlands, California; Eric White of LaQuinta,California; 15 Grand Children; 30 Great-Grandchildren; and sister Arlene Williams of Cedar City. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; a brother Ray White; and sisters Marian Hatch; Dorothy Chatterley; and Vanice Schmidgall. Funeral Services will be held 1:00PM Monday, August 15, 2011, at the Beaver Stake Center, 1380 East 200 North in Beaver, Utah. Friends may call for viewing on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Springer Turner Funeral Home at 150 East Main in Salina, or at the Stake Center in Beaver from 11:30AM to 12:30PM prior to services. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver. Services are under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, and Salina, Utah.
