“But the best thing at Grampa’s house by a whole bunch, plus a little bit is Gramma Mola…but then, that’s another story, isn’t it?” Bicknell, Utah - How fortunate we are to tell the story of Romola Jones, a truly unique woman. Grandma left us with much insight, some of which included “Wake up Jacob, Johnny shot a bear!” and “It’s like trying to milk a rubber duck.” Romola Allred Jones passed away in Roosevelt, Utah on October 24, 2016. Romola was born on March 30, 1934 in Loa, Utah. She was raised by John Frank Allred and Emma Izetta Morrell Allred in Loa, Utah. Her four siblings preceded her in death. Romola married Ted Baker Jones, January 25, 1950 in Loa, Utah. They made their home in Bicknell, Utah except for a brief stint in Las Vegas. This only lasted a short amount of time until Ted came home from work one evening and loaded everything in a truck (dirty dishes, clothes, etc.), and back to Bicknell they went. They were married for 56 years before Ted passed away on March 14, 2006. The last 16 years can be referred to the “Huh?” years. Romola had few jobs, but the occupation of which she was the most proud, was a librarian at the local middle school. She took a lot of joy in this and was always excited to recommend a good book. She loved and took great pride in having this position. As most grandmothers are, she was also an amazing cook. (Anyone who has had her peas-n-taters, can testify). She taught many lessons in the kitchen and not all of them had to do with cooking. She taught that anything worth doing, was worth doing well and that the best things take time. This was her approach with her relationships with family and friends. She was selfless in her care toward others and she always had time to visit with everyone. Whether they stopped by or she saw them at the post office, she always took time to visit and make people feel important. Romola was an amazing person. Romola is remembered by her children, Ken and Debbie Allen; John and Dawna Jones; and Doug Jones. By her many grandchildren, her many, many great-grandchildren, and by her friends; too numerous to mention. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Parkside Manor and their staff in Roosevelt for their love and tender care they took of our dear Mom. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
