Richfield, Utah – Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ronald Edward Martin, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Richfield on January 16, 2022. He was born October 20, 1931 in Salt Lake City, a son of Edward A. and Alice Jensen Martin. He attended schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from Cypress High School, Class of 1950. He joined the United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Ron married Norma Clyde in June of 1947 in Salt Lake City. They later divorced. He married Dorothy June Priebe August 20, 1976 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple December 17, 1988. Ron was very ambitious, always busy, alert and aware of all that was going on. He loved his family, both close and extended. He loved sports and was very competitive! He played softball (catcher) and basketball. He coached and refereed church ball games and served as athletic director in Salt Lake City. He was a big BYU fanatic. He loved to watch football and basketball games on TV. He loved to hunt and camp, but most of all, he loved to fish. Ron and Dorie moved from the Salt Lake City area to Hanksville in 1976, then to Aurora in 1980 and finally settled in Richfield in 2004. Ron and Dorie were called to serve an LDS mission at the Bishop’s Store House in Sigurd. They ran the storehouse for three years. Ron enjoyed gardening, raising fruits, vegetables, flowers, trees and a green lawn. He always found the best seeds for tomatoes, squash, beans, cucumbers, corn and watermelon. He remembered their names and where to buy them and he recommended and promised success if you bought and planted them, too. Ron was well known as the man who could successfully raise watermelon in Aurora where others couldn’t. He sold his watermelon to many of the local stores. They were the best tasting watermelon and he was very proud of this accomplishment. He talked about it to the end. We as a family are all happy he found Dorie, the love of his life. She stood by him to the end and we will be ever grateful to her. Ron loved to joke and tease people. Right up to the end, he was teasing and joking. He will be greatly missed. Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy of Richfield; children: Cheryl and Ellsworth Shiflett of Murray; Shauna and Steven Timmerman of Malad, Idaho; Linda and Martin Townsend of Torrey; Ronald E. Martin, Brian and Kristine Martin, all of Salt Lake City; Emma Lorraine and Joe Poirier of Chandler, Arizona; Mark and Angie Martin of Herriman; Racquel and Eric Stowell of West Jordan; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
