Ronald J Baker

Monroe, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Ronald Jay Baker, age 72, of Monroe, died August 10, 2010 in Provo, Utah. Ron was blessed with an extra three years of life, after suffering an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture in 2007. He was born June 26, 1938 in Hubbardston, Michigan, a son of Clyde Sylvester and Ruth Evelyn Struthers Baker. He graduated from St. Louis High School, Class of 1957 in St. Louis, Michigan. Ron married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Elaine Green, June 22, 1957 in St. Louis, Michigan. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple, January 10, 1976. Ron attended Palomar College for two and half years. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1962. Ron and Margaret raised their two children in Escondido, California. He was an active member of the LDS Church, where he served as Athletic Director for the ward and the stake; he was a young men leader for 15 years, working with the deacons, teachers, priests and scouts; a High Priest Group Leader and he taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce in Escondido, California. Ron was a fencing contractor and was the owner and operator of Lifetime Fence Company in Escondido, California. Ron lived his life to the fullest, and then moved to Monroe, Utah in 1998, where he became the water master, making many great friends.....and a few enemies. He was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers and truly enjoyed playing with them. Ron enjoyed fishing, riding dune buggies, horses and he loved to build anything. He was a master carver. He enjoyed water skiing, boats and fishing. He was fisherman of the year for 7 years. He enjoyed team-penning, sorting, fishing, hunting and camping with his friends and family, muttons fries with the guys and .......fishing. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Monroe; children: Scott Alan and Susan Baker of Escondido, California; Cherilyn Rene and Mike Toolson of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren: Shannon Marie and Brad Jenkinson; Sharilyn Rae and Thomas Farrel; Daniel Alan Baker, Jacob Scott Baker, Jared Stanley Baker, McKell Rene and John Allen, Ryan David and Jessica Toolson, Sean Randall and Colbi Toolson, and Kurtis Chase (KC) Toolson; 2 great-grandchildren: John Allen and Olivia Allen; sisters: Janet and Dennis Atchison of Lake Havasu, Arizona; Brenda and Tom Souder of Byron, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce B. Shinnebarger and a brother, Jerald Baker. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the Monroe 4th LDS Ward Chapel, 49 East 200 North in Monroe. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Monroe, Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Monroe City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
