Norman Ross Christensen, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully from this life with his wife by his side on September 20, 2023, in Richfield.
Longtime resident of Richfield, Utah, Ross was born in Salina on July 25, 1933, to Albert Vernal and Olive Lucinda Shepherd Christensen. Avid fisherman, hunter, and BYU fan, Ross could usually be found riding four wheelers, serving in the Manti Temple for fourteen years, coaching and cheering on his children and grandchildren while they were playing sports, or spending quality time with his loving wife.
The third of five brothers, Ross was the final Christensen brother to pass away. Bud, Ted, Ross, Ray, and Kent spent much of their childhood in Salina canyon and on the red hills of northern Sevier County. Ross was a high school baseball and tennis star, eventually playing for Snow College and graduating from Snow College and Utah State University. When not on the ball field or basketball court, Lake Powell and Disneyland were favorite destinations of the Christensen family. A favorite hobby in his later years was to make walking sticks out of aspen branches to donate to his grandchildren, the Richfield Police Department, hospitals, and others.
Ross had a very successful professional career, serving for over 44 years as an Engineer and as a Regional Director for the Utah Department of Transportation. After retirement, Ross loved to work in his backyard shop, tell jokes, and serve others with a friendly smile.
On September 8, 1964, Ross was sealed to his eternal sweetheart, Emelie Payne, in the St. George LDS Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together in Richfield, they raised two beautiful daughters, Cris and Angee, along with six additional children from their previous marriages: Terri Merrell, Wendy Terry, Susie Martindale, Denise Hall, Don Hall, and Todd Hall. All his children learned from and loved Ross. In addition, Ross is also survived by daughters- and sons-in-law, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Famous battleship.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 27 at 1:00 P.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services.
