Ross Hatch

August 14, 1941 — October 10, 2024

Ross Hatch, a loving husband, brother, and friend, passed away on October 10, 2024, at the age of 83 after bravely battling cancer for three years. Born on August 14, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, Ross was the fifth of seven children to Vernon Henry Hatch and Pearl Mower Hatch. He graduated with the class of 1959 from Richfield High School.

On December 8, 2000, Ross married Una Loye Taylor in Sebastopol, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple in June 2019. Ross was a devoted and caring husband, especially after Loye suffered a stroke, visiting her daily during her time in a nursing home until her passing in 2021.

Ross had a rich and diverse career. He was a fabulous chef and worked at Poulson’s Cafe in Richfield with his brother Carnell during High School. After marrying Julie Santos, they moved to California, He was a Manager and General Manager of several Chris & Pitts BBQ Restaurants. After marrying Beth Bates, they moved with two of her children, Colleen & Mark Jameson, to Richfield, and continued his love of preparing great meals for people to enjoy. Later, He worked as a truck driver for RFI Refrigerated Foods for seven years, as an underground electrician in the Consol Coal Mine for 15 years, and later at United Airlines as a ground employee for nearly a decade. However, his favorite job was at the print center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he worked for 12 years and formed lasting friendships.

He retired in 2018 to focus on caring for Loye, reflecting his unwavering dedication to his family. Ross also proudly served his country, receiving honorable discharges from the National Guard in 1960 and the U.S. Army in 1965. During his time in the Army, he was assigned to the CID, where he said that it gave him a great opportunity to “snoop” into things that perhaps he shouldn’t.

Ross had a deep passion for history, often reading and watching the History Channel. Even after becoming visually impaired, his love for learning continued as he listened to books on tape provided by the local library. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ross held various positions within the church, always striving to serve others.

Ross was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Julie (Judith) Santos, (Evelyn) Beth Bates & Una Loye Taylor Hatch; his parents; sisters Shirley Hatch and Pearl Hatch; and brothers Vernon Carnell Hatch, Orell Guy Hatch, and Gilbert Dale Hatch.

He is survived by his sister, Catherine Ann Hatch of Richfield, who will dearly miss him.
